Ketamine Assisted Therapy (KAP)

Ketamine is a legal and effective medicine used to treat mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, and PTSD. It works rapidly, often within hours, by affecting brain receptors and promoting new neural connections that regulate mood and stress. This can lead to lasting symptom improvement through enhanced neuroplasticity. 3 While it can be administered in several ways, Journey Clinical uses sublingual lozenges. 4 The effects, typically described as pleasant and causing a feeling of detachment and altered perception, last about 45 minutes. During this time, motor and verbal abilities are reduced. Afterward, there's time to process the experience, and the mood and neurological benefits can last for up to two weeks

For Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) through Journey Clinical, eligible diagnoses include anxiety disorders like GAD, OCD, adjustment disorders, depression like MDD, bipolar disorder, primary addiction disorder, trauma-related disorders like PTSD, eating disorders, and other conditions such as somatoform disorders. However, eligibility is ultimately determined by the Journey Clinical Team after an evaluation.

Individuals with uncontrolled substance use disorders, contraindicated psychiatric disorders, or unstable medical conditions are not considered appropriate referrals for KAP with Journey Clinical.

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) with Journey Clinical begins with an initial telehealth consultation to review your history, educate you about the treatment, and determine your eligibility. If deemed eligible, a personalized ketamine prescription and monitoring plan are developed. Journey Clinical's medical team will then prescribe a small amount of oral ketamine, enough for the first two KAP sessions, which will be sent to your home. Prior to the KAP sessions, you will receive instructions from the medical team on how to take your vitals and self-administer the ketamine lozenges.

Following the receipt of your ketamine, preparation sessions are scheduled like regular therapy to align on the process and set intentions for the KAP dosing session. The dosing session, lasting 1-2 hours, can occur in person or remotely, during which you self-administer the lozenge while in a comfortable setting with an eye mask and calming music. Your therapist will be present for support. Afterward, multiple integration therapy sessions are held to process insights from the dosing session and prepare for subsequent sessions. Journey Clinical's medical team also conducts regular follow-up consultations to monitor your progress and provide prescription refills as needed, with a minimum frequency of once per quarter.
